Engineering and groundwater research

Groundwater is a natural resource of the subsoil and has its origin in rain that seeps through the soil or from rivers, streams,
until it stabilizes and accumulates to form aquifers.

Their behaviour differs greatly from that of surface waters and their management, regulation and usage require the availability of the qualitative information provided by a hydrogeological report.

The geological formations of the subsoil may contain groundwater with the possibility of being extracted. This requires both the relevant environmental assessment processes such as geophysical tests, pumping tests and hydrological reports, as well as evaluating the range of possibilities for contamination of aquifers by mankind or other external elements.

These data and reports are gathered at IPMA in a large hydrogeological study of groundwater prepared by our qualified professionals.

The previous environmental characterization of groundwater is vital to enable a positive environmental assessment, as well as the adequate monitoring of the status of the groundwater storage area.
